Blitz Chess Stifles Creative Ideas ~ Bobby Fischer

Bobby Fischer didn’t like blitz chess which according to him, stifles creative ideas. But even in blitz Fischer demonstrated sharp tactical skills and creative ideas. The following game is a nice example! In a game against Yugoslav grandmaster Milan Matulovic Fischer goes for Ruy Lopez and once Black answers with Schliemann defense, Fischer manages to get a very active piece play. Being well familiar with all odds and ends of the variation Fischer quickly manages to gain advantage by sacrificing a piece, after which his attack gets decisive very quickly! In the end by unleashing a king hunt Fischer announces a checkmate!

  1. Answer to puzzle:
    Qxg7+, Kxg7
    Rg4+, (if Kh8
    Rg8++
    Or if Kf8
    Rg8+
    Ke7
    Re8++)
    The more Suren puzzle's imphasis to Queen sacrifice!

  2. 1. Qxg7+ KxQ 2.Rg4+ Kf8 3.Rg8+ Ke7 4. Re8#

  3. In puzzle
    Bd2 now the night is pin and of Ne2+ then Qf2.

  4. 1.Qxg7, Kxg7 2.Rg4+ Kf8 3. Rg8+ Ke7 4. Re8 mate

  5. I would play queen d7, it is the most positional move I see.

  6. Without looking at other answers for the puzzle. I have

    Qxg7+ Kxg7 Rg4+ then if Kh8 Rg8# so Kf8 Rg8+ Ke7 Re8#

  7. What stopped Black from playing 8…QxNP. ? It’s not only very threatening to White’s King but protects his own Kings Pawn.

  8. Puzzle: 1. QxPch, KxQ; 2. R(K)N4ch, KB1 (if 2…KR1; 3. RN8 mate); 3. RN8ch, KK2; 4. RK8 mate.

  9. Caption says ‘cheese lovers’ well, it’s not wrong

  10. Qxg7+!!, Kxg7 forced, Rg4+!, Kf8 forced because of mate in 1 on h8, Rg8+, Ke7 forced, Re8#.

  11. Queen to D7, if black takes knight , queen checks , black king can only step down , white rook checkmates- because king is trapped , white bishop controls only safe square.
